POLICE are treating the death of a man, found with severe head injuries, outside the Northbourne Flats in Braddon as suspicious.
The man, who is still unidentified is described as between 20 to 40 years old and of Asian descent and was found at around 6.40am by two people walking to the Jolimont Bus Station. At this stage there is no motive and no suspects.
ACT Policing Criminal Investigations Det-Supt Brett McCann said the man had sustained extensive head injuries, but the full extent of those injuries or whether he had sustained any other injuries was still unknown.
“We don’t know what weapons have been used, we are treating the death as suspicious due to the nature and extent of those injuries,” he said.
“We are seeking witnesses who may have heard any unusual noises or disturbances, argument fight in the vicinity of block 14 or 17 Northbourne flats between midnight and 6am to come forward or to Crimestoppers or any of the police station.”
Det-Supt McCann said they have have deployed all resources as if it were a homicide.
The body has not been moved from the crime scene and forensics are still examining the body.
Currently, the Southbound lane on Northbourne Avenue between Ipima Street and Girrahween Street is closed while police conduct their investigation.
Det-Supt McCann said depending on the investigation he doesn’t expect the road will reopen until 2pm.
