Doctor in the house

Former Canberran Dr Kate Haggar will star in "Young Doctors".

FORMER Canberran Dr Kate Haggar will be starring in WIN’s new eight-part documentary “Young Doctors”.

Dr Haggar, a second year resident in obstetrics and gynaecology, will be followed by cameras along with six other young doctors as they start work at John Hunter hospital, Newcastle. The doctors will also share a six-bedroom house for 11 weeks.

Dr Haggar grew up on a hobby farm between Canberra and Cooma and was one of three children in her class at Tharwa Primary School and the only girl.

She studied medicine at Newcastle University.

“Pulling a baby out is just incredible,” she says. “There’s so much energy in the room. You are so emotionally involved, and the midwives are totally immersed in the scene. It was just the most bizarre, fabulous, energising experience.”

“Young Doctors” premieres on WIN, Thursday, October 27 at 8pm
