Doszpot calls for details

OPPOSITION Education and Training spokesman Steve Doszpot has requested financial analysis from the Government that supports the recently released Bradley Report that recommends the merging of the Canberra Institute of Technology and the University of Canberra.

Mr Doszpot said he had written to Education Minister Andrew Barr expressing his surprise and concern that Prof Denise Bradley had no financial analysis in her recommendations.

“During a recent briefing with Professor Bradley and Ministerial staff, I asked for the financial analysis that supported her findings,” Mr Doszpot said.

“Prof Bradley advised that no such analysis existed and, in fact, that she was not asked to consider this critical element in her report.

“I find this a staggering admission. In fact, this is the third review into the future of these two institutions and none of them have provided any financial analysis.

“In my letter to Andrew Barr, I requested confirmation of exactly what financial analysis had been undertaken in relation to the proposed merger and why it was not included in the consultant’s brief.

“It is simply irresponsible for the Government to ask the Assembly and the broader community to consider this critical merger without access to any financial analysis and I call on the Minister to act on my letter immediately.

“Given both campuses are about to conduct open days to encourage Year 12 school leavers to enrol at their campuses, the timing of this report is also confusing and possibly counterproductive.”
