GAREMA Place is being transformed into a winter wonderland in preparation for the launch of Skate In The City tomorrow night.
The open air ice rink is almost ready and will accommodate up to 200 skaters at a time.
Organisers are urging people to book tickets in advance rather than relying on walking up to purchase tickets as one session has already sold out.
Project manager Jennifer Salkeld, who has been working on events in Canberra for 20 years, says she has never seen such a positive response to an event.
But people do not have to purchase tickets to enjoy the event.
“We’re not content to just put the rink in, we want to create atmosphere,” Jennifer says.
To add to the atmosphere there will be night markets on City Walk, music, LED lighting displays, and treats from the cafe.
For those keen on taking to the ice, skate sizes start very small with options for children as young as two and and go up to a men’s size 14.
