Hanson calls for inquiry

OPPOSITION corrections spokesman Jeremy Hanson has called for an inquiry into the May termination of former Alexander Maconochie Centre superintendent Doug Buchanan.

The AFP is reported to have dropped its investigation into allegations made by a prisoner against  Mr Buchanan.

“He alleged his sacking was partly due to his opposition to a needle exchange at the jail, and described himself as the political fall guy,? said Hanson.

“By sacking Mr Buchanan before the AFP had a chance to investigate allegations made by a prisoner, serious questions need to be answered  whether [Attorney General] Simon Corbell followed due process and if Mr Buchanan was treated fairly.

“If [Chief Minister] Katy Gallagher does not support an inquiry, it will further confirm that her  commitment to an open and accountable government is nothing more than rhetoric.”
