Libs slam ‘hollow’ plan

DEPUTY opposition leader Brendan Smyth has described the latest ACT Government’s  infrastructure plan as a hollow document if the Government doesn’t deliver major infrastructure on time, on scope and within budget.

Mr Smyth said the Government’s plans will mean little to Gungahlin residents waiting in gridlock on the GDE to get to work or taxpayers continually footing the bill for cost blow-outs such as the inner north ponds, the Cotter dam or the prison.

“This document offers little more tangible information than what is already known in the Budget, contains inconsistencies and broad proclamations to ‘explore’ or ‘investigate’ options in the long term,” he said.

“What is curious is that the largest infrastructure project in the history of the Territory, the $432 million proposed government office block, hardly rates a mention in the Government’s strategy.

“ACT Labor will continue to be judged on delivery and until they show a desire to reform infrastructure delivery, including supporting important reform like the Canberra Liberals’ Infrastructure Canberra Bill, these broad infrastructure documents will mean little to Canberra taxpayers fed up with poor outcomes.”
