Light show welcomes special visitors

THE KINGS Avenue overpass will be alight again, this time to mark the visits of the US President Obama and the Danish royals.

Hundreds of LED lights were first lit on the overpass during the recent visit of the Queen and Prince Philip.

“The overpass will be lit red, white and blue on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 November to welcome President Barack Obama to the National Capital,” National Capital Authority chief executive, Gary Rake said.

“Then on Tuesday 22 November a lighting display in red and white will greet Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.”

Mr Rake said the lighting display will differ from the one used for the recent visit of the Queen and Prince Philip.

“Rather than stripes of colour as used for the British royal visit, the LED lighting system will cycle through the colours in 30 second intervals,” he said.

The Kings Avenue overpass was designed to act as a gateway to Canberra. The LED lighting system was installed to mark official visits.
