Little guys back on the stairs

Restoration of Danish sculptor Keld Moseholm’s piece, “On the Staircase”, is underway in Petrie Plaza.

The two little guys who had been stolen from their spot at the top of the stairs have been re-cast by the artist in Denmark, says Graeme Taylor from Mag Welding Services, who’s fixing the damaged sculpture.

They arrived back in Canberra a few weeks ago, he says.

“This time we’re filling the entire staircase with concrete,” says Graeme. “We’ll stud the little guys in place and give them a good footing, so they should be pretty sturdy now.”

There’s a new security camera pointing at the sculpture, but Graeme says it doesn’t seem to help protect the art.

“What’s the point, even if they get caught, the damage has already been done,” he says.

Mag Welding Services also returned the missing sheep sculpture to City Walk recently.

“On the Staircase” should be back to normal by Monday, says Graeme.
