TEENAGE cricketer Patrick Jackson, a member of the under-15 team representing the ACT touring India late this month, had an idea he needed help with.
Patrick, 14, approached the Rotary Club of Canberra South with a proposal for $1800 to assist Indian boys to realise their cricket dreams.
But the year 9 student from Marist College made such a great presentation, the club decided it would support the plan to pay for academy fees and equipment for the Indians – and also sponsor Patrick’s tour.
The tour includes playing a friendly match against the Australian High Commission to India, which will be followed by a reception at the High Commission.
Guests will include former Indian Test cricketer Madan Lal and Australian businessman Bruce Adams, both of whom operate cricket academies in India.
Patrick sees the tour as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to further his cricket career as well as being a wonderful life experience. He has played cricket for Marist since Year 5.
Early in his playing career he was identified as a talented fast bowler and this year represented the ACT at the Under 15 Secondary School Sports National Championships in the Barossa Valley, SA.
