ACT Police have seized what they believe could be the biggest seizure of stolen property in the ACT.

Police said Criminal Investigations placed a warrant on a south Canberra property at around 11.30am and found every room in the house filled with property.

Criminal Investigations Sergeant John Giles said in all his experience as a police officer he has never been involved in a search warrant in which so much property was located.

In some cases, rooms were filled from floor to ceiling with items including books, CDs, DVDs, clothing, stationery, computer hard drives and software. Police believe the items were shoplifted from stores in Canberra over several years.

“At this time police are unable to put an accurate financial figure of how much property there is, but we cautiously estimated over $800,000 worth of stolen property is inside the premises,” Sergeant Giles said.

Detectives have begun cataloguing the items.
