Police search for fire bugs

POLICE are searching for the people responsible for starting what is believed to be deliberately lit fires in Woden this week.

The spate began on Monday when at about 5pm, police attended a fire to approximately 100 square metres of grass area. The ACT Fire brigade extinguished the fire.

On Tuesday at about 2.50pm, police received another report of a fire on grass alongside Mawson Drive, adjacent to the Mawson Shopping Centre. Police said four males were seen running from the area at the time of the fire. They were described as wearing white shirts and grey pants.

Later at about 5.15pm, police found a number of spot fires along a walkway between Marist College and Melrose High School. The fire brigade extinguished about 70 fires at the location.

On Wednesday afternoon at about 1.20pm, two men were seen setting fire to paper in Timbarra Street, O’Malley. The fire was extinguished after they were confronted by a local resident. They were last seen leaving the area in a small blue sedan.
