Police taser man

ACT frontline police used a taser for the first time last night, after a car pursuit through Canberra’s south.

The male driver was caught at the intersection of Marconi Crescent and Drakefield Drive, Kambah at 11pm, in a Mazda MX6 which had cardboard number plates.

When the driver refused to stop for police, a pursuit began through the suburbs of Kambah, Wanniassa and Monash. The pursuit lasted eight minutes and reached a speed of 140kmh before the driver lost control of the car on Clive Steele Avenue, Monash. The driver then got out of the car and ran at a sergeant, who drew his taser on the offender.

Police said the man received watch house bail and will face the ACT Magistrates Court on September 13 to answer charges including, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, exceeding PCA and not obeying direction of police.
