Solar sparks Corbell

IT’S the final day of sitting until the winter break and for our Members of the Legislative Assembly, it looks like it’s going to be a long night as the pollies grind on to pass the Budget.

The usual suspects reared their heads and, surprise surprise, more questions about the Liberal Party’s $10,000 volunteer grant debacle. However, the one issue that really got the Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development Simon Corbell fired up was a line of questioning directed to the Government’s solar-energy schemes.

Earlier today, Corbell announced the Government would be developing legislation and an auction framework for a medium-scale, solar-energy scheme.

Forming an unusual alliance, the Canberra Liberals and the Greens openly opposed the  decision and questioned the Government’s openness to the community after earlier this year unexpectedly ending the micro-scheme.

Describing the opposing parties’ behaviour as “reckless law-making”, Corbell stood his ground and told both parties that there real challenge was to “put their money where their mouth is.”

However, it looks like Corbell may be bullied into merging his medium scheme with the former micro-solar scheme, with Greens Energy spokesperson Shane Rattenbury releasing to the media a statement only moments ago. It said: “Shane Rattenbury MLA welcomed the support from the Liberals for his Bill, which will soften the impact on the local solar industry by rolling in the micro-solar scheme into the medium-scale scheme.”
