Speeding in Belconnen

A 44-YEAR-OLD Kaleen man was caught speeding last evening at 125km/h in Belconnen, 65km/h over the limit.

The man was speeding along Aikman Drive, when he was caught shortly before 5pm. He was fined $1811 and lost six demerit points.
Belconnen Station officer-in-charge Sgt Matthew Corbitt said, given the time the offence occurred, it was extremely fortunate there wasn’t a serious collision or fatality involving the motorist.
“People who believe that it’s okay to travel at excessive speeds on our roads need to realise the danger that they are putting themselves and other road-users in by their behavior.  This type of irresponsible act will not be tolerated by ACT Policing,” Sgt Corbitt said.
ACT Police are targeting speeding motorists this month.
