Tharwa park vandalised

Trees and picnic facilities were vandalised at the recently upgraded Tharwa Sandwash recreation area on the Murrumbidgee River.

TREES and picnic facilities were destroyed by vandalism at the recently upgraded Tharwa Sandwash recreation area on the Murrumbidgee River.

Rural district manager Brett McNamara said given the Tharwa Sandwash recreation area was recently upgraded to improve the visitor experience, it was incredibly disappointing to have someone destroy the facilities and surrounding environment.

“We ask that acts of vandalism or theft of trees and vandalism of our recreation facilities be reported so that they can be investigated as close as possible to the act occurring, evidence gathered and offenders prosecuted,” Mr McNamara said.

He said what they did have on their side is CCTV footage of the offenders as well as others and  were working with ACT Police to identify the suspects.

“There are a number of remote cameras in operation at parks and reserves across the ACT to keep an eye on what goes on within the estate,” he said.

“We use these cameras to monitor wildlife and feral animal activity as well as illegal activities such as these.”

To report vandalism contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000 or Canberra Connect on 132281.
