TRANSACT, the local sponsor of the national short-film festival Tropfest, is producing a gangster film with a twist to compete in next year’s event and other short-film festivals.

The film, directed by Canberra International Film Festival artistic chief Simon Weaving, was shot over two days in the basement of TransACT House, on Northbourne Avenue, Dickson and at a farm in Hall.

Called “Waiting for Robbo”, it stars a veritable galaxy of Australian personalities – John Wood, Justin Rosniak, Lawrence Leung, Rhys Muldoon and Ian Crocker and the crew was drawn from local volunteers and students from CIT.

Tropfest, the world’s largest short film festival, is a free, public, outdoor event held on the last Sunday of February, each year. Each year there is a theme for the films submitted, known as the Tropfest Signature Item, which for 2012 is “light bulb”.
