Trust releases risk list

Lake Burley Griffin is named as one of the heritage places most at risk of deterioration.

HERITAGE places including Lake Burley Griffin and Majura Valley have been listed as the most at risk of destruction, deterioration, neglect and inappropriate development, according to the National Trust of Australia.

The trust today released an annual list of heritage and historically significant places judged to be most at risk.

The top places at risk in priority order are: Lake Burley Griffin and foreshores; The Register of the National Estate; Majura Valley; Reid housing precinct;  Dickson/Lyneham flats; and Yarralumla Brickworks.

President of the ACT National Trust, Eric Martin, says: “…with the release of this list the ACT National Trust hopes to draw attention to the threatened nature of some of the Territory’s important heritage places and in the future we hope to be able to work with owners and managers to conserve them in the best possible way.”
