Woman robbed on busy street

A MAN robbed a woman of her phone and attempted to snatch her backpack yesterday on Franklin Street in Manuka.

About 3.15pm, a 57-year-old woman was walking along Franklin Street, outside Greater Union cinemas, when a man approached her from behind. He attempted to snatch her backpack but only took her phone.

A number of witnesses came to the woman’s aid and the offender left the area on a bicycle down Furneaux Street and then onto Canberra Avenue.

The offender was described as about 175cm (5’9”) and aged in his late teens to early twenties, wearing white shorts and a red hooded jumper.

Witnesses or anyone who has seen a man matching this description are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
