Budget boost for southside arts centre

TUGGERANONG Arts Centre will receive a $2 million facelift as part of the 2012-13 ACT Budget.

Ahead of next Tuesday’s budget, it has been announced by Minister for Arts Joy Burch that the money will go towards a new gallery, a new multi-purpose space, a new dance studio and improvements for the existing dance studio and performance spaces.

“This is fantastic news for our community centre here in Tuggeranong, it’s been bursting at the seams for a number of years and this funding will allow us to do some major internal changes to improve studio, performance, administration and gallery space,” Tuggeranong Arts Centre president Mick Gentleman said.

“Our grass roots programs like Fresh Funk and Messengers have been a great success story for the Tuggeranong Community and now we can provide even more opportunity for them to grow with this funding.”

Ms Burch said the work will improve the functionality of the centre adding a new foyer with a dedicated reception desk to welcome visitors and improved office accommodation for staff and community arts officers.
