A dance spin on Mary Poppins

THE Classical Ballet Centre Canberra will dance around the story of Mary Poppins in its  2012 concert this week.

The concert,  “A Spoonful of Sugar,” will feature over 210 children, ranging from four to 18, showcasing dance styles including classical ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary and tap. Director, Lorraine Bennett, said the children work hard to put on the best performance they can and show off all they have learned over the year for their family and friends.

They’ll be putting  a new spin on well-known Poppins favourite like “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”, “Jolly Holiday” and  “A Spoonful of Sugar”, with the idea, Ms Bennett said, of  “giving children a chance to perform in front of a live audience in a professional theatre environment.”

This year, she added, her aim was for the young performers and the audience to leave the show happy and a little more bonded to “what I consider one of the most magically captivating children’s stories of all time”.

“A Spoonful of Sugar”, at The Canberra Playhouse,  at 6.30pm on Friday, November 30 and 2pm on Saturday, December 1, bookings to 6275 2700 or www.canberraticketing.com.au
