A musical blast from the 80s

IT will be a blast from the past, back to the age of the Rubik Cube and those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or worse, movies like “Back To The Future,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” “The Karate Kid’ or “The Wedding Singer” when “Back to the 80s,” the musical, opens at the ANU Arts Centre tonight.

Directed by Canberra identity Louiza Blomfield for Free Rain Theatre, it brings us the graduating class of William Ocean High School, though seen through the eyes of Corey Palmer, as they live through their final senior year as they experience “the fun, the heartbreak, the loves and the loneliness of growing up.”

Aren’t you glad you don’t have to go through it again?

Remember bubble skirts and blue eye shadow, the hairspray and Atari game stations? There’ll be plenty of them as well as a Star Wars dream sequence, dance routines and the biggest hits of the 80’s.

It’s retro with a vengeance.

“Back To The Future,” at the ANU Arts Centre, September 7-23, bookings to 6275 2700 or www.canberraticketing.com.au
