ACT leads country in disability services

ACT is leading the country for disability services, according to data from the Council of Australian Governments Reform Council.

The COAG Reform Council’s “Disability 2010–11: Comparing performance across Australia” report found that the ACT had the highest proportion of people receiving disability support services, and the highest workforce participation by persons with a disability and their primary carers.

The report also recorded the ACT as the only jurisdiction to show a reduction in the number of younger people with disability admitted to residential aged care facilities.

The data also showed that Canberra had the lowest level of unemployment compared to the rest of the country with an unemployment rate of 4.3 per cent in comparison to the rest of the country at 7.8 per cent.

The COAG Reform Council’s annual report compares states and territories achievement against outcomes and performance benchmarks specified in National Agreements, such as the National Disability Agreement.
