Ambitious concert for new orchestra

THE very new Canberra Concerto Orchestra, directed by cellist Charlotte Winslade, kicked off with the March tour of the CCO-String Quartet and is now ready to move on and out, with requests to perform again locally and return to new areas in NSW.

An ambitious move will see the first of three CCO-Symphony Orchestra concerts in the 2012 series taking place on April 22, when guest soloist in flautist Sally Walker, a former Canberran, will return to her home town to perform the Mozart Flute Concerto. Mark Mhiell will conduct.

Walkerwill also be taking a master class on April 21 during the evening after the orchestra completes rehearsals, providing opportunity for wind musicians and students inCanberrato learn from an internationally regarded flautist.

Starting with Schoenberg’s “Transfigured Night”, the program will move to the Mozart Flute Concerto and Beethoven Symphony No. 5.

The idea, CCO members are saying, is to leave audiences feeling “uplifted and energised”.

Canberra Concerto Orchestra Concert I, at CGGS Performance Hall, Melbourne Avenue, Deakin, 3-5.30pm, April 22. Ticket sales at the door or bookings to 6288 0805.
