‘Arts Matriarch’ to open Ifould’s new show

A 3D work on paper by Fran Ifould
WE’RE not quite sure how Solander Gallery director and Canberra personality, Joy Warren, would feel about Manning Clark House’s description of her as “Canberra Fine Art Matriarch”, but she’ll be on hand this Sunday, August 12, at 4pm, to open an exhibition by Braidwood visual artist Fran Ifould.

Fran Ifould’s sculptural artist books and prints evoke the coastal colours and textures of the “Ness” property at Wapengo, on the far south coast, the beachside retreat for generations of Australian artists and scholars.

The works were created on location in regional areas, on flooded rivers or salt plains. Hahnemulhe and St Armand artist’s paper has been drawn or printed upon, dyed by concoctions made from desert plants, and then transformed into artists books that, when opened, reveal traces of a journey in which the  artistic processes are connected to the surface of our landscape and its continual evolution.

Since graduating from postgraduate work at the School of Art, ANU, Ifould has participated in the Field Study Programs run by the Environment Studio at the school, and is an exhibiting member of Megalo Arts Access, Canowindra Art Network and Braidwood Regional Artist Group. In 2010, she was the winner of the Goulburn Art Award.

This show forms part of Manning Clark House’s new visual art exhibition season and lecture program exploring the issues surrounding Indigenous art creation.

2D and 3D works on paper by Fran Ifould, at Manning Clark House, 11TasmaniaCircle Forrest, August 12-26. The opening on Sunday, August 12, at 4pm will be followed by a floor talk from the artist. Opening $10/Conc. $7, entry to the exhibition all other days is free.
