Australian Youth Orchestra looks for talent

THE Australian Youth Orchestra, one of the world’s elite pre-professional training organisations, this week launches its 2013 application process to find, inspire and nurture Australia’s most talented and aspiring young musicians.

For any young orchestral musician, getting into the AYO represents the epitome of achievement.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work with some of the world’s leading conductors, tutors, industry professionals and musicians, perform at world-class venues and festivals, as well as take part in both national and international tours.

The orchestra will tour internationally in 2013 with conductor Christoph Eschenbach and Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell.

65 per cent of Australia’s professional orchestral musicians are AYO alumni, with former participants featuring significantly among the world’s greatest orchestras, so last year more than 1000 applications were received to fill 220 places.

The AYO presents 10 tailored training and performance programs every year for aspiring musicians, composers, arts administrators and music journalists.

The Australian Youth Orchestra’s CEO, Colin Cornish himself began  his musical career with the AYO and later becoming a member of the renowned Australian Chamber Orchestra.“From first-hand experience, this is a life-changing opportunity,” he said.

Auditions are open for anyone aged between 12 and 30 years of age who meet the eligibility criteria as specified for each program and are an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia.
