IT was good to see that the owner of the Turkish Delight Restaurant, Hajar Koç, chose music and dance to re-launch her restaurant, one of Canberra’s oldest, last weekend.
The restaurant was closed for six months after a kitchen fire in June, immediately following the 30 year celebrations of the establishment. It’s now up and running, evident when a large crowd of well-wishers turned up to dance and dine to the music of Sydney Turkish group Ekin—Ahmet Eren and Buletn Kocak.
Canberra identity Ellnor Grassby stepped up to tell how fond she and her late husband Al Grassby had been of the restaurant, and surprised everybody by joining belly-dancers Mel and Chelsea from Tuggeranong, on the dance floor.
But the star of the evening was undoubtedly former Speaker of the ACT Legislative Assembly and longtime firefighter, Wayne Berry, who, with a different talent altogether, entertained those present on the ukulele and sang his aptly-chosen pièce de résistance song, “Istanbul (not Constantinople)”.
The Turkish Delight is now open for business. Bookings to 6251 1319 all more information at www.turkishdelight.com.au
