BMX ‘bandit’ draws knife at leisure centre

LAKESIDE Leisure Centre, Tuggeranong, was robbed last night by a man armed with a small, silver-bladed knife.

About 9.45pm, the man entered the leisure centre on Anketell Street, walking into the office and searching the room.

Police said a staff member approached the man and saw he had a small, silver-bladed knife. The offender fled and is alleged to have left the area riding a grey BMX bike towards the Anketell Street taxi rank.

Police also received another report of a man, who was riding a BMX bike, who attempted to enter a car in the car park adjacent to Anketell Street and have the driver take him home. However the driver yelled out, causing the man to run off.

Police believe it’s the same man involved in both incidents.

The alleged offender was wearing dark tracksuit pants, a dark coloured sweat shirt, and a dark coloured baseball cap with a bum bag.

Witnesses of either incident are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
