British farce sure to tickle

IT’LL be, in the words of Stephen Sondheim, “comedy tonight” when Tempo Theatre’s latest British farce, Derek Benfield’s “Panic Stations” opens this evening at Belconnen Community Centre’s theatre in Swanson Court, (not to be confused with the Belconnen Arts Centre around the corner.

When Chester Dreadnought buys a new house in the country he gets more than he bargained for, an unhelpful handyman, a new girlfriend, an eccentric archaeologist and an Army training camp within rifle range.

Just to complete the picture, his in-laws arrive to help. Can he somehow keep everyone happy and survive the next Army manoeuvres?

You know it’s bound to have a happy ending

Tempo has made this kind of play its forte—it also staged the first production of “The Mousetrap” in the region.

Derek Benfield’s “Panic Stations,” directed by John Elphick at theatre@bcs in Belconnen Community Centre, Swanson Court, Belconnen, from September 7-8 and 12-15 at 7.30pm, matinees: September 8 and 15 at 2pm, twilight show September 9 at 4pm, bookings to 6275 2700 or www.canberraticketing.com.au
