JAZZ singer Liam Budge has been busy establishing himself as a rising star in the Australian jazz scene. 

One of the brightest students in jazz vocals at the ANU School of Music under Vince Jones and Kristen Berardi, he has already won the James Morrison Jazz Scholarship this year, and participated as a mentor in the Juilliard Jazz program.

Over the last fours years Budge has performed all around Australia, and was the featured artist at Tropfest.

He’ll be at the Abbey this weekend to show local jazz lovers his combination of traditions of the past with a modern eclectic sound and to launch his self-titled debut jazz album, which features Mat Jodrell on trumpet, Tim Firth on drums, Luke Sweeting on piano and Chris Pound on bass.

Supporting Budge will be some ofAustralia’s top jazz musicians from Melbourne and Sydney.

Budge weighs into the subject of the season when he tells Citynews, “I feel at the moment the ANU SOM [SchoolofMusic] needs a touch of good press, as it has all been so gloomy recently due to everything going on, and half my band are ex-students.”
