Canberra cyclist wins first Aussie gold

CANBERRA’S Susan Powell has won Australia’s first gold medal at the London Paralympic Games in the Women’s Individual C4 Pursuit Cycling.

Paralympian Susan Powell.
Powell, 45, powered to victory by over three seconds from America’s Megan Fisher, with Australia’s Alexandra Green taking bronze.

Five years ago Powell suffered a spinal injury playing hockey that left her with nerve damage and with weakened strength in her leg.

Since taking up cycling at the age of 39, she has set world records and won a world championship.
