Canberrans travel to Comedy Festival

IT’S that time of the year – the team of comedians from Comedy ACT will return to perform in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

But before heading for the festival, they’ll be doing a series of preview shows in Canberra, Sydney and a regional NSW tour.

The show called “Capital Punishment” features veterans Kale Bogdanovs, musician Rafe Morris, and Greg Kimball, as well as festival newcomers Jez Margosis and Marie Helou (as seen on Fat Pizza). The show will run on Thursday to Sunday nights at 10.45pm (9.45pm Sundays) at the Melbourne Town Hall during the festival, March 28-April 22.

Kimball says last year’s Capital Punishment show was a huge success. “I am literally punching myself in the face in excitement. I should probably stop doing that,” he said.

Newcomer Margosis, a national “Green Faces” finalist, calls it a dream come true. “The 2012 festival will bring together the most talented, respected and entertaining comedians from across the globe,” he says, “somehow, I’m gonna be there too.”

During the preview shows, other Canberra comedians, including Jay Sullivan (doing his own solo festival show) and The Stevenson Experience, will appear.

February 16 will give audiences an early peek and help raise funds to cover their costs in Melbourne, but show producer Tim Duck said: “These guys aren’t in it for money, they’re in it because they love making people laugh. The more they represent Canberra on the national scene, the stronger that local scene will become.”
