Christmas season lights up

CANBERRA’S festive season will officially kick off tonight, with the traditional lighting of the giant Christmas tree in Civic Square from 7pm to 9pm.

This year’s entertainment includes Peter Combe, local performers Wild Voices, the Woden Valley Youth Choir, and of course, Santa Claus himself.

Volunteers will be at the event collecting donations to raise funds for “Dollars for Dili”, a Centenary of Canberra project helping to improve the lives of young people in Timor Leste.

The city centre will also host New Year’s Eve celebrations, featuring two spectacular fireworks displays, a family concert in Civic Square headlined by Diesel, and an all-ages dance party in Garema Place.
