Coining the future

FOR the second year running, the Royal Australian Mint has partnered with Canberra Institute of Technology in asking students to submit designs for a temporary exhibition showcasing their work.

According to the CEO of the Mint, Ross MacDiarmid, the partnership “allows the Mint to develop and access talent from our very own backyard, and encourages CIT students to apply what they have learnt in the classroom in a real world setting”.

He added,  “The public are encouraged to come in, view the students’ work and vote for their favourite design. The votes will be essential to awarding the best designs to the students on our awards night, which may result in the design being featured on an upcoming collectible coin release.”

CIT course coordinator, graphic design, Enzo De Angeli enthused, “the students are really excited about having their work on display for all to see and to have the possibility of the design appearing on a coin one day.”

Voting closes on Wednesday, July 18 and the awards will be presented to the best designs on the evening of Tuesday, July 24.

“Uncovering new Talents” at the Royal Australian Mint until Sunday, August 26. Further information at www.ramint.gov.au
