AS part of Australian Dance Week, Belconnen Arts Centre will be hopping on May 19 with “Dance on the Edge”, described as “a taste of the world of dance in the ACT”.
Elizabeth Cameron Dalman is presenting a dance piece in memory of the Japan earthquake and the subsequent tsunami in nuclear disaster, while James Batchelor, a former member of Quantum Leap and now a student at the Victorian College of the Arts, will present a dance film and installation, “In Wonderland”.
Dancers from the Flamenco Centre, directed by Tomas Dietz, will perform a duo about melancholy, lost love and opportunity.
Seven dancers from Quake Bellydance will look at what draws them to bellydancing and Hilal Dance will preview three works in progress, all using line to create imagery and drawing on contemporary Egyptian influences.
“GOLD” – Growing Old Disgracefully (the seniors dance group at Canberra Dance Theatre) and Jamie Winbank and Kelly Beneforti will perform at 2pm in the arts centre’s foyer. Jamie Winbank and Kelly Beneforti will showcase a new piece exploring the emotional and physical intimacy of two bodies on a couch.
A post-show chat will hosted by the director of Ausdance ACT, Neil Roach.
