Dangerous driver faces court

A 29-year-old Narrabundah man will  face the Magistrates Court this morning after driving dangerously through Canberra’s inner south.

About 1.30pm yesterday, police were patrolling around The Canberra Hospital when they spotted a man, known to have a disqualified driver’s licence, driving a blue Holden Commodore.

When police attempted to stop the man, he sped off, driving dangerously towards other vehicles. Police then terminated the pursuit.

Police received a flood of phone calls from members of the community relating to the Holden Commodore. The information led to police cordoning off the suburbs of Kingston, Deakin, Forrest, Red Hill, Griffith and Symonston.

About 1.55pm, the man was seen leaving Stuart Flats on a pushbike but escaped capture.

About 2pm officers again saw the man, riding along Manuka Circle.  The man was followed along Currie Street, Kingston, where he was apprehended by specialist response and security officers.

The man was charged with a number of driving offences.  He is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning where police will oppose bail.
