East meet west with Manx

Harry Manx
TONIGHT’S the night. Canadian blues player Harry Manx will be at Canberra Southern Cross Club with world music performer Yeshe.

Manx creates musical “short stories” mixing blues with Indian ragas, a practice that has won him a huge following.

With 11 albums in 10 years, his latest is “Isle of Manx, the Desert Island Collection” but of favourites.

Manx’s solo sound is enhanced with elements of tabla, dholak, keys and backing vocals.

This year he was awarded “CD of the Year” by CKUA radio in Canada, nominated for “Blues Artist of the Year”, “Songwriter of the Year” and “CD of the Year” from the Maple Blues Awards.

Born on the Isle of Man, as his name suggests, Manx spent his childhood in Canada and left in his teens to live in Europe, Japan, India and Brazil. He honed his skills on street corners, in cafes, bars and at festivals, later studying with Rajasthani Indian musician Vishwa Mohan Bhatt.

He will be joined by Yeshe, performing music from his latest CD “Roots and Wings” to open the evening.

Harry Manx, at  Canberra Southern Cross Club, June 20, Bookings to 6283 7200
