Elderly woman dies after Cook collision

AN elderly woman who was hit by a car while walking her dog died in hospital yesterday. 

The 69 year old woman was walking alone Dexter Street in Cook round 4.25pm on Friday when her dog, which was not on a lead, reportedly ran on to the road.

The woman is believed to have ran after the dog and was hit by a car coming downhill.

She was taken to The Canberra Hospital with serious head injuries and died early yesterday morning.

Police say the driver remained at the scene to assist police with the investigation.

The death is the ninth fatality on ACT roads this year.
