Elderly woman robbed outside shopping centre

POLICE are calling for witnesses after an elderly woman was robbed and knocked to the ground in Mawson on Sunday afternoon. 

Around 5pm, the 76-year-old woman was in the car park outside Woolworths Supermarket in Mawson when two men in a red hatchback pulled up beside her.

A man opened the front passenger door and attempted to pull the woman’s handbag into the car. A scuffle ensued between the passenger and the woman, before the car sped away, resulting in the woman falling to the ground.

The men stole the woman’s handbag, with her wallet and keys, and were last seen driving along Heard Street in Mawson. The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of grazing to her hands and knees.

The male driver of the car is described as having an olive complexion with short dark curly hair and a goatee. The male passenger is described having an olive complexion, aged in his late 20s to early 30s and had an eyebrow piercing.

The car is described as an older model red hatchback, with yellow and black NSW registration plates.

Anyone who saw someone matching the description of the car or men near Woolworths in Mawson yesterday afternoon, or witnessed the aggravated robbery and is yet to speak to police, is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or viacrimestoppers.com.au.
