Enlighten festival ’embarrassing’, says Smyth

THE Canberra Liberals are claiming Tourism Minister Andrew Barr has failed to deliver his promised “major autumn event”.

Tourism spokesperson Brendan Smyth has described next month’s Enlighten festival as “another embarassing blow” to the Government’s attempt to create a major autumn event.

“Andrew Barr’s attempt to create a major new autumn event has now been subsumed into the long-running – and successful – Canberra Festival, with Enlighten simply being a support act along with various other support acts,” Mr Smyth said.

“This is yet another example of a government that constantly over-promises and under-delivers.”

Yesterday the Government announced two Enlighten events – the Uncomformity Tour and the Mint Factory Floor Experience – were sold-out.

Minister Barr described the ticket sales as “a great indication that people are excited about what’s on offer during this year’s Enlighten”.
