Fashion trends spring to life

Host Colleen Cuneo chats to Jayson Brunsdon at the fashion launch.
COLOUR blocking, popping and pastels were all on display last night at the Canberra Centre’s spring/summer fashion launch at Floriade.

Models showcased frocks from the latest collections of fashion designers Jayson Brunsdon and Leona Edmiston, as well as new trends from the Canberra Centre; with lace, metallics and florals all featuring on the catwalk.

Popular colours included canary yellows, pastel pinks, turquoises and crisp whites – sometimes all worn at once.

While Brunsdon admits his collection is very “Marilyn Monroe” – with flirty, 50’s-style frocks and cinched waists – he says he has one particular woman in mind when he designs: “she’s feminine, she’s got class – there’s always a bit of Audrey Hepburn.”

Brunsdon says he “admires a woman with substance.”

He encourages women to choose clothing that suits their body type, rather than just following the latest fashion trends, and to keep in mind the “Chanel rule” of always taking something off before leaving the house – “not your top of course,” he says, “but a piece of jewellery. Never have too much going on.”
