Getting a burst of country living

St Clement’s Monastery... dates back to the 1830s.
FINE food, fun and fresh air will come together at historic Galong for a weekend showcasing sustainable country living.

“Forks, Talks and Walks” will be held on Saturday, March 3, at St Clement’s Monastery.

During the day there will be presentations and guided walks with local food, farmers markets, smart buying and children’s activities.

Those keen to learn a little more about sustainable living can see displays of food preparation, composting, worm farming, renewable energy, talks on natural farming and landcare.

St Clements Retreat manager Cheryl Mongan says: “This is a rare opportunity to experience food and music for the heart and soul in a historic monastery all within a framework of sustainable country living.

“Over the past 160 years Galong House, the heart of the St Clement’s precinct, has been the scene of many a celebration, but none can boast of a meal prepared by a chef such as Serge Dansereau. Serge will prepare an evening meal for guests based on fresh regional produce with quality regional wines. You may want to follow the evening with bed and breakfast at the Monastery.”

The evening event called “Some Enchanted Eating” will include a performance, canapés, dinner and premium wines.

“The evening will commence with a performance of operatic arias and popular music in the atmospheric candlelit Boy’s Chapel, followed by pre-dinner drinks and canapes on the verandah overlooking the expansive gardens,” Cheryl says.

“The highlight of the evening will be a dinner in Galong House prepared by renowned Sydney chef Serge Dansereau, owner of The Bathers’ Pavilion at Balmoral Beach.

“Canberrans  can complete the Galong experience by staying the night and enjoying a leisurely breakfast in beautiful surroundings.”

Activities during the day are free and start from 11.30am. Dinner is $155 per person. Accommodation and breakfast at St Clement’s additional. Information at www.stclement.com.au and bookings to Cheryl Mongan 6380 5222 or info@stclement.com.au
