Libs won’t commit to tax cuts

OPPOSITION leader Zed Seselja admitted today the Liberals will “not commit to matching every individual tax cut” introduced as part of the ACT government’s overhaul of the territory’s tax system.

The Liberals released an election platform earlier in the week, saying they would repeal ACT Labor’s tax reforms and halve stamp duty for first home buyers of properties up to the value of $500,000.

Treasurer Andrew Barr said today the The Liberals’ policies are worth “hundreds of millions of dollars” and will mean an increase in payroll tax for local businesses and higher rates for Canberra households.

Mr Seselja has said  the Liberals would ”be making further statements on tax throughout the campaign”.

“We won’t be supporting the Labor/Greens plan to triple rates and so we therefore can’t support all of the government’s cuts,” he said.

“We’ve made the choice to protect households, and we’ll also be halving stamp duty for first homebuyers who are most in need of relief.”
