Master plan to refresh old shopping village

Simon Corbell.
TUGGERANONG’S oldest group centre, Kambah Village, will have a larger and more diverse supermarket, an upgraded entrance, more on-street parking and an upgraded courtyard as part of a refreshing of the retail centre’s image.

Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development, Simon Corbell today announced the launch of the final Kambah Village Master Plan.

“This master plan has been designed to ensure that Kambah maintains its unique village feel, but continues to grow with the community that it serves, including with retail demand, but also in way that gives the village a breath of fresh air,” Mr Corbell said.

“Throughout the consultation it was made clear that height restrictions should remain within four storeys, and this master plan will restrict building heights mostly to two storeys around the central courtyard.

“Kambah is Tuggeranong’s oldest group centre, established in 1976, the new master plan will see the village retain its unique look and feel, while freshening up its appearance with an upgrade to the courtyard in the heart of the centre as well as a brand new entrance with new landscaping off Marconi Street.

“Another key feature of the village master plan is the revised street layout and options for future retail and residential development. This plan includes provision for a new street parallel to the grass swale and increased visual connection to the street to better protect pedestrians.

“The master plan also outlines an extension of Kett Street to Drakeford Drive to provide greater access south of the centre. The plan also includes approximately 65 extra car parking spaces in and around the Kambah Village centre.”
