THE Health Directorate has set up a memorial fund for the family of Linda Cox, the senior cardiac technician struck by a car and killed outside The Canberra Hospital.
Mrs Cox, who was 38 years old, was hit by a car fleeing police when she was crossing Yamba Drive with a colleague.
“This fund has been put in place in response to an overwhelming show of support for the Cox family from the Canberra community, through messages of condolence and requests to contribute money towards Linda’s two young boys and family,” Health Director?General Dr Peggy Brown said.
“My heart goes out to Linda’s family at this incredibly difficult time. The Canberra community is in shock over this sudden and senseless loss of life, and I know many are grieving the death of Linda ? a precious mother, wife and friend as well as a valued member of the Canberra Hospital team.
“In lieu of flower donations, the family has requested that donations can be made to the fund.”
Mrs Cox was a senior cardiac technician at Canberra Hospital, and received an award in 2010 as part of a team that developed a breakthrough system that reduced the time it took for heart attack survivors to receive lifesaving treatment in hospital.
“The Early Access to Treatment System significantly improved patient care and outcomes. When patients suffer a suspected heart attack the system enables paramedics to transmit vital patient data while en route, to the cardiologist preparing to treat the patient,” Dr Brown said.
Donations to the Linda Cox Memorial Fund can be made via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) to the Service One Members Banking, via website www.somb.com.au or at any Service One Members Banking outlet – ANU, Belconnen, Brindabella Business Park, Civic, Deakin, Gungahlin, Queanbeyan, Canberra Hospital, Tuggeranong, University of Canberra and Woden.
