Molonglo life in art

First Prize, the mandala by Joan Costanzo
THE winners have been announced in the 2012 the “Along the Molonglo Exhibition, Water = Life” and you have just two days to view all the entries at the Discovery Centre CSIRO.

Artists were asked to cover the territory between the Tallaganda State Forrest through Captain’s Flat, Queanbeyan and Canberra, to meeting the Murrumbidgee River northwest of Canberra.

The sponsors of the event are the ACTEW Corporation and the Molonglo Catchment Group who provide the first and second prizes of $2000 and $500, respectively.

The third prize of $200 in vouchers was donated by Pepe’s Paperie and all visitors are asked to select the People’s Choice Award.

First Prize went to “Not One Drop Goes Missing”, Prismacolour pencils on black board, by Joan Costanzo,  who says, “The World’s water cycle is so complex, a mandala seemed about the only way to try to represent such a cosmic concept. The wonderful thing is that, throughout the cycle, the amount of water in the world, in all its various guises, never changes. Not one drop is lost or added”.

Second Prize went to an oil painting by An Pan. Third prize went to “Life of the Molonglo”, watercolours by Isla Patterson.

These are eight small paintings depicting the life of the Molonglo River from near its source near Captain’s Flat to its confluence with the Murrumbidgee.

Taking in life at Molonglo Reach, overflowing at Scrivener Dam, flooding at Coppins Crossing and days of peace and calm.

“Along the Molonglo Exhibition, Water = Life?” at the Discovery Centre CSIRO until 29.

Second prize, landscape by An Pan
