CANBERRA Legacy and the Band of the Royal Military College are showing their colours this weekend with “Big Band Sound – 2012.” 

The Canberra Theatre will come alive as officer commanding, Major Dan Hiscock, leads the Band through a program that varies from symphonic wind band works, Big Band tunes enhanced by vocalists Dave Andrews and Toni Maxfield, a precision Drum Corps and the weird and wonderful sounds of the bagpipes.

No doubt the evening will prove to be a showcase for Australia’s finest defence musicians, but amid the pleasure, there will also be a serious note, as all proceeds go to Canberra Legacy, assisting them to continue their work caring for the families of deceased and incapacitated veterans.

Legacy is, of course, a voluntary organisation whose support and services include the dependents of today’s Australian Defence Force who lose their lives as a result of their military service. Today’s members of Canberra Legacy are keeping the promise made by the founding members of the organisation, and need the support and generosity of the broader Canberra community.

It’s good to report, then that there has been no shortage of sponsors for this mixture of music and fundraising, with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, the ACT Government, the Australian Defence Credit Union, Booz & Company, Thales, Jacobs and CEA Technologies all getting behind the gala night.
