NightFest lights up to big crowds

DESPITE stormy weather cancelling one night, more than 23,000 people attended the fifth Floriade NightFest.

This year’s NightFest featured stand-up comedy, live music, DJs, cooking and DIY demonstrations, cocktails, and night markets, all set against a spectacular light show, “Synthesis of Light”.

The light show was created by Mandylights, which also provided an Australian first:  iPad remote controls stationed around the park to give visitors the chance to become a lighting designer by picking colour schemes from various locations.

This year’s event featured new programming around themed evenings including Chillout Wednesday, Latino Thursday, Party Night Saturday and Family Night on Sunday, encouraging repeat visitation by offering a different experience each night.

Tourism Minister Andrew Barr says Floriade NightFest has attracted a new target audience in recent years.

“The success of Floriade NightFest proves that Floriade is much more than just a flower show,” he says.
