AUDIENCE members will be invited to share a story from their lives and have it performed by actors and musicians at the Street Theatre tomorrow. 

The playback theatre event,  “Re Think Man Woman”, is run by the Women’s Centre for Health Matters and group A Gender Agenda, and is part of mental health week.

The event will provide an opportunity to share stories, perspectives and experiences and to engage in discussions about gender, biology, identity and expression.

Organisers say one of the aims is to highlight the high rates of mental illness that transgender and intersex people experience, and also to give all audience members – of any gender identity – the opportunity to tell stories from their own lives about gender.

They say they hope to “explore journeys with gender: the times you’ve loved the gender you are; the times you’ve hated it; stories of changing gender or wanting to change gender; stories of questioning, being confused, and struggling for change in a world obsessed with the question: male or female?”
