Play’s bounce down mammary lane

Emma Powell and Mandi Lodge
The puns come thick and fast.

“Bosom buddies” Emma Powell and Mandi Lodge who have swept around the world in the show “Busting Out”, claim to have been busy unleashing their “playful puppies” and walking “abreast down mammary lane”.

Now their liberating comedy returns to Canberra as part of a triumphal Aussie tour.

In case you missed it the first time, the show is an “uplifting” concoction of bouncy songs, wobbly jokes, thigh-slapping sketches, and practical demonstrations of the lesser-known uses of the leading ladies’ personal assets.

It is, in short, about breasts, but this is more on the lines of “Puppetry of the Penis” than “Breast Wishes”, which took a more serious look at the subject.

As Powell, the creator of the show, says: “I am always pleased when women of all shapes, sizes and ages come to me at the end of each show and tell me how liberated they feel. It’s so nice to know that they’ve had a great laugh.”

While she is aware that  it can be a life-changing experience for many women who have perhaps been ashamed or embarrassed by their breasts, she knows it will appeal to men, too.

“Busting Out!” at Canberra Theatre, 7.30pm, Saturday, July 28, bookings to 02 6275 2700 or www.canberratheatrecentre.com.au
