Police pursuit comes to crashing halt

A POLICE pursuit in Kambah yesterday ended with a car crash and a 34-year old man arrested.

Around 5.20pm, police tried to stop the maroon Hyundai Excel on Boddington Crescent after noticing it had no headlights on and no rear number plate attached.

But the driver of the car accelerated away, resulting in a pursuit lasting about 20 seconds before the Hyundai collided with kopper logs on Kidman Close.

The man, who ran from the vehicle, was arrested him a short distance from the vehicle.

Police searched the man and seized a flick-style knife.

Checks showed the vehicle had been unregistered since February, and the registration plates did not match the vehicle.

The man was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained during the crash.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date for various traffic offences, including driving unlicensed, driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle and failing to obey police direction. He will also be charged for possessing a knife without a reasonable excuse.
